The Dark Mic - Love & Other Drugs (Review)

The Dark Mic opens this album the way that I love for an album to open up. BARS!!!! I am a fan of hip-hop to the core so this is always a blessing. The Dark Mic opens up the album with "First Dose, First Love" & he his talking his talk. "Fuck a mumble rapper with your autotune ass". I love that line. A great way to open the project with bars after bars. With The Dark Mic doing the entire production on the project, I like how every song doesn't sound the same. "Dope" is the perfect title, this one here gives me an old school hip hop vibe with a new school flow. "Placebos" features Anna Y.C. & this is a refreshing track. The Dark Mic raps "Got a little money & I got a little lazy, like your baby mama now fuck you pay me". The witty bars & dope lines on this one is something you can replay. As soon as "Dead Love" came on, I could tell it was going to be soulful. This tracks features Mike Theodore. The Dark Mic expresses his true feelings on this song & this will most defintely touch your soul. Mike Theodore kills the hook & it's perfect for the vibe. "Conversations with the bottle, I been talking to the spirits" that line stood out on the 2nd verse. This one of my favorites on the whole project. "Too fucked up" is another track where The Dark Mic is expressing his true feelings & what the liquor does to him. Any rapper who can be emotional and dig deep to express everything always makes for a great song. Jess Hurley is featured on the "Good die young" & this is full of raw emotion. I also love the production on this song right here. "If I was good enough, I wouldn't be in this position", The Dark Mic raps on "Sertraline" that line along is very deep & it makes you think about life and everything in it. All I can is that the 2nd verse on this song is so uncut & raw. Listen & pay attention closely, this is rap!!! "Lead aspirin" starts off like some dope Kanye West production but it shifts to something groovy & fresh. This is one of the ones that's going to keep your head bobbing. A-F-R-O steps in on "The Takeback". Both guys perform excellent on the verses which makes for a dope collaboration. The Dark Mic couldn't let the song end without spitting some more bars after A-F-R-O. "Twelve Steps" features Antonia Marquee and this is one of those soulful raps that you need to focus on. Antonia kills the hook & I love that horn that's playing in the background on the hook. The production rises above on this one. The project ends with "Love & war" featuring Joe Borowsky. BARS!!! This is the perfect way to end the project in my opinion. The 2nd verse he raps about contempating suicide & how he made it out of that situation which is a blessing. The Dark Mic is ending the project the same way he started it & that's with dope lyrics, excellent production. @darkmicmusic
